Description

The CD4017 is a CMOS Decade Counter/Divider IC with 10 decoded outputs (Q0–Q9) and a carry-out signal. It’s also known as a Johnson counter and is commonly used for LED chaser circuits, light sequences, and event counting. Each clock pulse advances the counter by one output, making it excellent for timing and display control applications.

Key Features:

  • 10 decoded outputs (Q0 to Q9)

  • Operating voltage: 3V–15V

  • Can count from 0 to 9 (Decade counter)

  • Low power CMOS design

  • High noise immunity

  • Clock enable and reset inputs

  • Compatible with TTL and CMOS logic

  • Available in DIP-16 package

Applications:

  • LED chaser and running light circuits

  • Digital counters and timers

  • Frequency dividers

  • Sequential light control

  • Arduino and electronics projects
