Product Description
The ESP32-C5 Development Board is a high-performance wireless IoT development platform based on Espressif’s ESP32-C5 series. It combines a 32-bit RISC-V processor with dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth Low Energy, and IEEE 802.15.4 connectivity for Zigbee and Thread applications.
Unlike many traditional ESP32 boards that operate only in the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band, the ESP32-C5 can operate on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. The 5 GHz capability can provide lower interference and improved performance in congested wireless environments, while 2.4 GHz provides wider compatibility and generally longer-range connectivity.
The board is suitable for IoT devices, smart-home systems, industrial automation, wireless sensors, gateways, robotics, home automation, Matter devices, Zigbee/Thread networks, Wi-Fi monitoring projects and embedded wireless development. Espressif specifically identifies applications including smart homes, industrial automation, healthcare, consumer electronics, smart agriculture and low-power IoT sensor hubs.
Key Advantages
- Dual-band Wi-Fi: Supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, offering much greater wireless-network flexibility than 2.4-GHz-only ESP32 devices.
- Wi-Fi 6 support: IEEE 802.11ax features include OFDMA, MU-MIMO, Target Wake Time and spatial reuse for efficient IoT communication.
- High-performance RISC-V CPU: 32-bit single-core processor running at up to 240 MHz.
- Multiple wireless protocols: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE and IEEE 802.15.4 allow one platform to support multiple IoT ecosystems.
- Zigbee and Thread support: Ideal for modern smart-home and Matter-related development.
- Low-power capabilities: Suitable for battery-powered wireless sensors and IoT nodes.
- Rich peripheral support: GPIO, UART, SPI, I²C, I²S, ADC, PWM, CAN FD and several other hardware interfaces are available.
- USB programming/debugging: The official ESP32-C5 DevKitC includes USB Serial/JTAG support for programming, communication and debugging.
- Strong security features: Includes secure boot, flash/PSRAM encryption and hardware cryptographic acceleration.
